Osage Gardens is passionate about organics! Organic food, organic products, organic way of life!
Since the inception of Osage Gardens we have always been cautious and aware of how we are growing food and what we are feeding our plants. We have always avoided using herbicides, hormones, genetic engineering, radiation, synthetic fertilizers, soil fumigants or (non-certified organic) pesticides. In 1998 Osage Gardens became officially certified organic through the State of Colorado. In 2002, after a 10-year development process, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued its rules covering use of the word "organic" on foods. Osage Gardens embraced these new national USDA standards with enthusiasm because it gave the consumer a defined set of guidelines and expectations when purchasing organic products.
However, due to the popularity of organics and the increasing demand for nutritious and sustainable agriculture practices, the organic trend has also been embraced by the vast agri-business. Despite the USDA guidelines, not all organics are created equal. Although we whole-heartedly believe in organic, we want to go beyond organic. We also believe in supporting the local food economy, growing sustainably, and working with our environment and local ecosystem to maintain and encourage natural diversity.
