Organic Opal Basil

Several other basils, including some other Ocimum species, are grown in many regions of Asia. Most of the Asian basils have a clove-like flavour that is generally stronger than the Mediterranean basils.

TUNA SALAD WITH PURPLE OPAL BASIL
A tuna face lift.

1 large can high quality tuna
1 small stalk celery, chopped
2-3 green onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1-2 teaspoons fresh lime juice to taste
1- 2 teaspoons chopped purple opal basil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Mix everything together and enjoy.

Osage Gardens Organic Herb Opal Basil

LEMONGRASS SAUCE WITH PURPLE OPAL BASIL
Serve with your favorite grilled or sautéed shellfish.

¼ cup chicken broth
¼ cup rice wine
1 tablespoon minced lemongrass
2 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 teaspoons lemon zest
2 teaspoons corn starch
¼ teaspoon sugar
¼ cup chopped fresh purple opal basil

Combine all sauce ingredients together in a bowl. Whisk well and place in small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat until slightly thickened.

CROSTINI WITH ROASTED RED PEPPER, FETA AND PURPLE OPAL BASIL
A great beginning to a party.

Make your own crostini or use high quality crackers
1 large red bell pepper, roasted, peeled, seeded and cut in attractive slices
1 package purple opal basil leaves
2 oz. Feta cheese
Extra-virgin olive oil

Arrange pepper and cheese on crostini or cracker. Garnish with basil and drizzle with olive oil. Top with freshly ground black pepper.

GRILLED CHICKEN WITH SWEET OPAL BASIL SAUCE
Dazzle ‘em with this easy flavorful sauce inspired from Japan.
Serves 4


2 whole boneless chicken breasts, brushed with olive oil and grilled until just done
2 tablespoons each soy sauce, fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice, brown sugar and safflower or peanut oil
½ teaspoon Asian chili sauce
1 tablespoon finely minced ginger
1 clove garlic, finely minced
¼ cup purple opal basil, chopped

In a small nonreactive bowl, mix all ingredients. Serve over grilled chicken.
