CSA Vegetable Production Manager

Farming Skills:
Knowledge of organic growing methods to stay within our USDA certification requirements.
Understanding of irrigation, weed control and integrated pest management.
Ability to formulate and help others adhere to a planting schedule for year round crop production.
Develop an ongoing 3 year planting schedule to maintain crop rotation, diversity & cover crops.
Accurate record keeping for both organic certification and profitability.

CSA Management:
Work within the current CSA structure and procedures to continue to provide a year round CSA program to 70-200 families (depending on the season).
Maintain CSA membership documentation and communication – computer skills are necessary.
Good communication and problem solving skills with all the CSA members.
Help with biweekly newsletters offering updates, recipes and excitement to CSA members.
Organize weekly produce for families:  harvesting, cleaning, bunching, boxing for off-farm pickups, etc.
Oversee deliveries to CSA members including an on-farm pick up.
Coordinate and grow enough seedlings for the CSA and Farmer’s Markets crops.
Schedule harvests to fulfill weekly CSA shares while providing produce for Farmer’s Markets and retail sales – both on-farm at a produce stand and off-farm to retail stores.

Farmer’s Markets:
Help organize weekly farmer’s markets.
Harvest, clean & organize produce for the markets.
Load trucks for the market.
Merchandise and sell produce at the market.
Come back to the farm to unload market goods and clean out the truck.

Financial and Management Skills:
Be able to keep within a budget.
Help with the ordering of seeds, pots, soil and other equipment needed for the year.
Supervise interns and paid employees.
Good communication, patience and leadership skills.
Ability to multi-task when needed.

This position is year round full-time.

Year Round Agriculture Interships
As an intern at Osage Gardens you will experience all aspects of operating a medium-scale organic farm.  Much of your time will be spent in the fields and greenhouses planting, transplanting, harvesting, fertilizing, watering etc.  We will introduce you to our planting and harvesting schedules, crop rotation, and produce projection.  You will also help prepare foods for market, interact with the local customers, and may be involved in some of the administrative tasks of running a farm.
Start of Internships: Anytime
End of Internship: Minimum 2 month stay
Number of Interns:  2

Housing:  Provided:  Basement apartment with own bedroom, full kitchen, bathroom and separate entrance.  No pets please. 
Transportation: Residence to farm is within easy biking distance; however we strongly recommend that you have a car to access Glenwood Springs and local activities. 
Meals: Responsible for own meals.  Can use extra food from farm.
Skills Desired: Passion for organics! Garden or growing experience helpful but not necessary.  Cannot shy away from hard work and dedication.
Compensation:  Full Time $100/week
