Osage Gardens is an Organic farm that is dedicated to environmentally friendly sustainable agriculture and serves as a valuable component in helping to maintain the agriculture heritage for Colorado and the country. Osage Gardens wholesale organic greenhouse operation took root in January 1992 by selling tomatoes to local grocery stores and restaurants. Osage Gardens was growing basil as a side project but quickly realized that there was a high demand for fresh basil. This led the farm to specialize in fresh culinary herbs. After 10 years the farm expanded onto a new piece of land located on the Colorado River between New Castle and Silt. they now grow over 22 different varieties of culinary herbs including basil, thyme, rosemary, chives and dill (for a complete list, see the section on Fresh Culinary Herbs). Osage Gardens currently has 26 acres of certified organic land and currently farms more than 2 acres under greenhouse cover. Osage Gardens grows year round.

Osage Gardens Inc. was founded by Tom and Sarah Rumery in 1992. They were looking for land upon which they could build greenhouses and a community in which to raise their three daughters. They started with one small covered greenhouse which gradually expanded into five large greenhouses on the orginal property. The girls are grown and gone but the basil is still growing strong.
